New Delhi: Prime minister Narendra Modi has given his approval for re-constitution of Niti Aayog. The first meeting of governing council of Aayog is scheduled for June 15. In the new set up, PM Modi continues to be the chairman while Vice chairman Rajiv Kumar too will continue to remain with the post. The names of V.K. Saraswat, Prof. Ramesh Chand and Dr V.K. Paul has been inducted as full-time members while economist Bibek Debroy has been dropped.  The biggest surprise in the list issued by PIB was the missing name of Amitabh Kant who was the CEO of the Aayog during NDA-l.

The overhauled Niti Aayog will have Defence minister Raj Nath Singh, Minister of Home affairs Amit Shah, Minister of Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Finance and Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture, Farmers Welfare, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj as an ex-officio member.

While Minister of Road Transport & Highways and MSME,  Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot, Minister of Railways; & Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State (IC) statistics and planning Rao Inderjit Singh are among special invitees.

All the state Chief Ministers, along with the Delhi and Puducherry CM, the Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar will be part of the June 15 Niti Aayog governing council meet being the permanent members of the Aayog. Niti Aayog is premier policy think of the Government that's major initiatives include "The 15-year road map", AMRUT, Digital India, Atal Innovation Mission, Medical Education Reform, agriculture reforms (Model Land Leasing Law, and Reforms of the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee Act.
