Have food for free if you don’t get food bill on trains!

IRCTC asks the staff to wear uniforms with slogans written “No Bill – The Food is Free” on them because of the unending complaints of overcharging or not giving bills of food on trains
Have food for free if you don’t get food bill on trains!

New Delhi: There are no free lunches in the world but on India Railways you may get a free meal if the railway staff overcharges you, or does not give you the bill of the food you purchased.  IRCTC has made it compulsory for its staff to wear a uniform that will have a slogan written on them "No Bill – The Food is Free".  Which precisely means you can have your meal for free if you do not receive a bill for your food from the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

Piyush Goel made the move

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has made this move in order to bring about awareness amongst passengers that they do not need to pay for their food if they do not get a bill for the same. In addition to this, IRCTC has also mandated the service staff to carry POS machines to maintain transparency in billing procedures.

No more overcharging on food

According to the data available with IRCTC between April 2018 and October 2018, there were more than 7,000 overcharging complaints. The step has been taken following Railway Minister Piyush Goyal's instruction of taking strict action against erring vendors or food servers. The move also includes cancellation of vendors' licences if prices are not mentioned on the food items that are served on trains.

Live Streaming of Kitchen units

In order to give more comfort to the railway passengers and ensure accountability as well as transparency in catering services, the IRCTC has upgraded a total of 46 kitchens in past two years. CCTV units too have been installed in as many as 38 kitchen units. IRCTC is planning to have live streaming of these kitchens on its web portal so that passengers can watch where and in what condition their food is being prepared.
