HSL built diving support vessels Nistar & Nipun launched

New Delhi/Vizag: Two Diving Support Vessels (DSVs), Nistar & Nipun, were concurrently launched by Smt Kala Hari Kumar, President, Navy Wives Welfare Association (NWWA) on Thursday, September 22. Both the vessels have been built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar was present on the occasion.

These vessels are the first of its kind indigenously built for the Indian Navy. "Indigenously designed and built at HSL, these ships are a true testimony to #Aatmanirbharta. They are self-sustaining platforms which can operate at sea for prolonged durations", the Indian Navy said in a statement.

DSVs are equipped with an array of complex Diving Support systems and a Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV) will be deployed for deep sea diving and submarine rescue operations, the Navy statement said. Furthermore, ships will be capable of conducting SAR and Helicopter Operations at sea. "This project is being executed with support from Indian industry primarily MSME firms, who have supplied Yard material, equipment and services through GeM portal", the statement added.

"With 80% indigenous content, the DSV project has generated local employment opportunities and promoted indigenisation in line with the Indian Navy's concept of Self-Reliance," the statement concluded.

Speaking on this occasion Admiral R Hari Kumar said "A great occasion for HSL and IN, the launch of Nistar and Nipun state-of-the-art Diving Support Vessel for IN. HSL has become a very trusted and valued partner in the road to 'Atmanirbhar Bharat". The shipyard is doing great strides and emerging as an outstanding yard for building and repairing ships in the eastern seaboard."

HSL CMD Cmde Hemant Khatri was present during the launch ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, he said that HSL had engaged more than 120 MSME vendors across India for the DSV project. It resulted in the further motivation of the MSME sector in shipbuilding which has immense potential to generate employment at a major level.
