Bhubaneswar: Apart from the cyclone, there's also a newborn baby girl that has taken the state of Odisha by storm. Any guesses on who she could be? Born on a day when, what was being pegged to be the worst cyclone almost two decades, hit the coastal state of Odisha, a newborn baby was immediately christened 'Lady Fani' by the doctors who delivered her.

Baby was born at the same time as the cyclone hit the hospital

The baby was born in a railway hospital in Mancheswar, barely five km from the Odisha capital Bhubaneswar, as the cyclone wreaked havoc outside. "Baby made landfall at 11.03. We are calling her Lady Fani as she was born when the hospital was hit. This was the mother's first baby and both of them are doing fine. The hospital suffered some damage," East Coast Railways (ECoR) spokesperson JP Mishra said.

Docs maintained calm as cyclone raged outside

Even as the cyclone raged outside, sweeping thatched houses and swamping towns and villages with a thunderous roar and packing heavy rain and winds with speeds of up to 175 kmph, doctors at the railway hospital maintained their calm and delivered the baby safely. The baby was born to a 32-year-old railway employee working as a helper at the Coach Repair Workshop, Mancheswar. Doctors said that both the mother and the newborn are doing fine.

However, it is not clear if the parents want to name the baby 'Fani.'

3 people dead

Meanwhile, on the same day, three people died in Odisha. While a teenage boy was killed when a tree fell on him in Puri, flying debris from a concrete structure left a woman dead in Nayagarh. In Kendrapara district, an elderly woman died of a heart attack at a relief shelter.
