New Delhi/ Balasore: (Defence News) In a significant message to the hostile nations India successfully test-fired extended range BrahMos missile featuring indigenous booster on Wednesday. The test was carried out at around 10.30 am from a mobile launcher at the integrated test range (ITR) in Odisha's Balasore district. The BrahMos missile with the indigenous booster is capable of hitting targets at more than 400-km range. "Successful test of BrahMos surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile featuring indigenous Booster and Airframe Section along with many other 'Made in India' sub-systems is one more major step in enhancing the indigenous content" said Ministry of Defence in a press release issued in the afternoon.

The test was carried out under the PJ-10 project of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) under which the missile was launched. This is the second time that the extended range version of BrahMos supersonic missile has been test-fired. Congratulating the team of scientists involved in the successful test of BrahMos Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said "This achievement will give a big boost to India's #AtmaNirbharBharat pledge,".

Dr G Satheesh Reddy, Secretary DD R&D and Chairman DRDO also congratulated the scientific community and industry for this feat. "Wednesday's successful launch has paved the way for the serial production of the indigenous booster and other indigenous components of the powerful BrahMos Weapon System realising Atmanirbhar Bharat pledge" mentioned the release.

BrahMos cruise missiles

BrahMos missile is world's fastest anti-ship cruise missile in operation. Developed under PJ-10 project of the DRDO, BrahMos is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft, or land. BrahMos is a joint venture between the Russian Federation's NPO Mashinostroyeniya and India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), who together have formed BrahMos Aerospace.
