New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs for the appointment of UC Sarangi (IPS) as Special Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT), he has been appointed to the post on the lateral shift basis for a tenure up to his superannuation on July 31, 2022, with effect from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Sarangi is a 1988-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre. He is currently serving as Special Director General (DG) of the Border Security Force (BSF). Prior to his promotion as Special DG of BSF, he was serving as ADG in the BSF.

Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF)

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is India's largest Central Armed Police Force. It functions under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the government. The CRPF's primary role lies in assisting the State and Union Territories in police operations to maintain law and order and counter-insurgency. It came into existence as the Crown Representative's Police on July 27, 1939. After Indian Independence, it became the Central Reserve Police Force on the enactment of the CRPF Act on December 28, 1949.
