
HAL Recruitment 2025: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a leading aerospace and defense company in India, has announced a vacancy for the position of Director (Engineering, Research & Development). The appointment will be for a tenure of five years or until superannuation, whichever is earlier.
Company Overview
Established on August 16, 1963, HAL is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the administrative control of the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence. The company specializes in the design, development, manufacture, maintenance, and upgrade of fighter aircraft, helicopters, transport aircraft, engines, avionics, and related accessories. It is a key supplier to the Indian defense services and has a global presence in over 25 countries. HAL also collaborates with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and is engaged in the manufacturing and maintenance of industrial and marine gas turbine engines.
Role and Responsibilities
The Director (Engineering, Research & Development) will be a member of HAL’s Board of Directors and report directly to the Chairman and Managing Director. The selected candidate will oversee research, design, development, and project implementation in alignment with HAL’s strategic goals. Key responsibilities include:
Managing corporate R&D and design initiatives.
Overseeing new product and technology development.
Supervising engineering and product development projects.
Ensuring compliance with Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) and promoting indigenization under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Implementing Board decisions related to engineering and R&D functions.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Age: Minimum 45 years; upper limit varies based on category (internal candidates must have at least two years of residual service before superannuation, while external candidates must have at least three years).
Employment Status: Applicants must be employed in a CPSE, Central/State Government, Public Sector Banks/Financial Institutions, Autonomous Bodies, or in private sector companies with an annual turnover of at least Rs 10,000 crore.
Educational Qualifications: A degree in Engineering from a recognised institution is mandatory. A postgraduate or research qualification in relevant fields will be an added advantage.
Experience: At least five years of experience in the last ten years in aircraft/helicopter-related design, airworthiness, production, or engineering support at a senior management level. Experience in leading R&D teams and published research work in reputed journals is desirable.
Compensation & Tenure
The selected candidate will receive remuneration as per the Industrial Dearness Allowance (IDA) pay scale of Rs 1,80,000 – Rs 3,40,000. The appointment will be made for a period of five years or up to the date of superannuation, whichever is earlier.

Applications must be submitted online through the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) website (https://pesb.gov.in/). Candidates employed in government or CPSEs must apply through the proper channel. Private sector candidates must submit additional documents, including company annual reports and proof of employment status. The last date for submission of applications is February 28, 2025, by 3:00 PM, while nodal officers must forward applications to PESB by March 10, 2025.
