New Delhi: State-run EESL (Energy Efficiency Services Ltd) said on Tuesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd) for installing charging stations for EVs.
As per the MoU, EESL will set up public charging stations for EVs at 1,000 BSNL sites across the country in a phased manner, EESL said in a statement. EESL will make the entire upfront investment on the services pertaining to the MoU, along with the operation and maintenance of the charging infrastructure by using qualified personnel.
State-run telecom service provider BSNL would be responsible for providing the requisite space and power connections for installing the charging infrastructure.
Taking forward the vision of National Electric Mobility Programme, EESL has commissioned 300 AC and 170 DC chargers across India, EESL said. Till date, 66 public charging points are operational in Delhi-NCR.
With its innovative model of demand aggregation and bulk procurement, EESL receives EVs and chargers at a significantly discounted rate as compared to the actual market value, the statement said. Further, with access to low-cost funds, it is able to discover the most competitive project costs. Using this approach, EESL has established a sustainable business model, which makes EVs affordable for end-consumers.
EESL and BSNL had signed another MoU in October 2019 for setting up 100 charging stations for electric vehicles in Punjab. The two public sector undertakings (PSUs) had signed the 10-year-long Memorandum of Understanding with the objective of building electric vehicle infrastructure in BSNL, Punjab Telecom Circle area and explore synergy for further promoting EVs, including electric two-wheelers in the state.
Several states in India have released policies for promoting local adoption of EVs. With installation of public charging stations, the range anxiety among residents will reduce considerably, which would spur the proliferation of e-mobility.
