

New Delhi: The Ministry of Coal has allotted a coal block to West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL). An Allotment Agreement, to this effect, has been signed with WBPDCL regarding the Deocha Pachami Dewanganj-Harinsingha coal block on Monday.
In accordance with the provisions of Coal Block Allocation Rules, 2017, under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulations) Act, 1957, Ministry of Coal has allotted the Deocha Pachami Dewanganj-Harinsingha coal block to WBPDCL. The coal block is located in West Bengal with an area of 12.28 square km with an estimated reserve of 2,102 Million Tonnes for generation of power.
"The project is slated to generate both direct and indirect employment in West Bengal considerably and also contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. Further, the project envisages to address the immediate as well as the forthcoming coal and power requirements of the region," the statement said.
The allotment agreement was signed by Ram Shiromani Saroj, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Coal and Amit Bhattacharyya, Director (Regulatory Affairs), WBPDCL, in the presence of Sumanta Chadhuri, Secretary, Ministry of Coal and Dr PB Salim, Chairman/Managing Director of WBPDCL.

Other senior officials of the Ministry of Coal namely, Vinod Kumar Tiwari, Additional Secretary, Bhabani Prasad Pati, Joint Secretary, were also present.
