Chennai/ New Delhi: Minister of State for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli on Thursday visited the Chennai Petroleum Manali Refinery in Tamil Nadu. He interacted with the officials and the workers at the refinery & took stock of its functioning.

Operating at a capacity of 10.50 MMTPA, it is one of the most complex refineries in the country with Fuel, Lube, Wax and Petrochemical feedstocks production facilities, he said.

On his visit, Teli also commissioned a Sulphur Recovery Unit built at the cost of Rs. 570 crores at the refinery in the presence of CPCL MD Arvind Kumar and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. ED & State Head (Tamil Nadu) VC Asokan.

Rameswar Teli said it will convert the poisonous Hydrogen Sulphide gas generated by the refinery to elemental Sulphur and reduce the number of Sulphur compounds released into the atmosphere.

During a cloth distribution ceremony that followed, the minister distributed sarees and dhotis to all the contract workers in the Sulphur Recovery Unit.
