New Delhi: State-run NTPC Limited has commissioned the first 660 MW unit of 1,980 MW Nabinagar super thermal power project in Bihar. Addressing the media on the occasion, Power Minister RK Singh said with the commissioning of the Nabinagar power project, India's total installed capacity has went up to 3,49,000 MW.

Bihar will get 85% of total power generated

NTPC officials said that Bihar will get 84.8 percent of the power generated from the Nabinagar power project. Uttar Pradesh will get 11.4 percent, Jharkhand 3.27 percent and Sikkim will receive 0.54 percent. The plant is being operated by Nabinagar Power Generating Company Ltd (NPGCL), a subsidiary of NTPC Limited.

Rs 41,000-cr investment from NTPC on the way

While noting that NTPC has already invested Rs 33,000 crores in Bihar, Singh said that the state is set to receive more investments worth Rs 41,000 crores from the public sector company. "NTPC will soon increase its production capacity by adding 4050 MW in Bihar," the minister said. Singh appreciated NTPC's efforts in keeping electricity prices unchanged during the last four-and-a-half years despite 45 percent increase in input cost, like coal and freight.

Bihar's Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav presided over the function in the presence of Sushil Kumar Singh, MP (LS), Aurangabad, Mahabali Singh, MP (LS) Karakat and Birendra Kumar Singh, MLA-Nabinagar. NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh, Pratayay Amrit, Principal Secretary (Energy), Bihar, AK Gupta, chairman NPGCL & Director (Commercial), NTPC Ltd, S Narendra, regional executive director (ER-1), Vijay Singh, Chief Executive Officer, NPGCL, along with other senior officials of NTPC, were present on the occasion.
