New Delhi: State-run power giant NTPC Limited has inked a pact to supply electricity generated from renewable energy (RE) sources to Military Engineering Services. This is the first-ever agreement by the Indian armed forces for getting power supply from renewable energy sources, NTPC said in a statement on Friday. This will go towards the gradual decarbonisation of the armed forces.

A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for RE power from NTPC Solapur and Power Uses Agreement for RE power from upcoming NTPC Khavda, was signed to this effect at Chandigarh by AK Srivastava, General Manager (Commercial), NTPC, Sunit Kumar, AGM (Commercial), NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd and Maj Gen Ashok Kumar, DGW, the statement said.

NTPC Renewable Energy plan

NTPC has been expanding its green footprints by powering renewable energy projects and aims to achieve over 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 accounting for 50 percent of its overall generation capacity. The RE mix includes Solar PV, Wind, Energy Storage and Green Hydrogen including mobility.

NTPC's capacity addition program is in line with India's commitment to UN Climate Change Conference at Glasgow at COP-26. The power major's goal is to achieve a non-fossil energy capacity of 500 GW by 2030 as part of NTPC's UN Global compact commitment.
