Odisha set to get investments worth Rs 1.40 lakh crore in petroleum and gas sector

Bhubaneswar: With proposed investments of around Rs 1.40 lakh crore under various oil and gas projects, Odisha is set to be India's focal point of the petroleum and gas sector, Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said. At present, refinery expansion, petrochemicals, polymers, raw material for textiles, pet coke gasification, LNG terminal, LPG terminals and various other projects are in progress. "Around Rs 1.40 lakh crore of investments have been proposed under various oil and gas projects in Odisha. While Rs 43,000 crore has been invested in the Paradip Refinery alone, creating a need for skilling the youth for future jobs in the sector," said Pradhan.

Pradhan, who also holds the Skill Development and Entrepreneurship portfolio, inaugurated the main campus of the Skill Development Institute (SDI), Bhubaneswar on Sunday.

Indian Oil Corp to be anchor investor in SDI

"As promised, I have met my timelines of ensuring that the campus gets ready in 2019. Odisha got the Petroleum Ministry's first SDI in the state capital with Indian Oil as the anchor investor and managing company," said Pradhan.

With its dual education system combining apprenticeships in industries and vocational education, the institute will lead the way for the youths in India and the state, Pradhan added.

Skill Development Institute will also impart skill training to more than 50,000 students in 25 regular trades relating to the hydrocarbons sector and local industry needs.
