New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation's Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola inaugurated the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) performance-based navigation (PBN) workshop for ATCOs at the Indian Aviation Academy (IAA) at Vasant Kunj, New Delhi on Tuesday.
On the occasion Airport Authority of India's (AAI) Chairman Anuj Aggarwal, Member (Operations) IN Murthy and Member (Air Navigation Services) Vineet Gulati were also present. While welcoming the participants and ICAO instructors, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, stressed upon the need for AAI to implement PBN in accordance with ICAO Plans and national needs. Assisted by PBN experts of AAI, Raphael Guillet and HuHo Ha from ICAO sub-regional office Beijing, are imparting training. In the workshop delegates from CAA Nepal, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) India and Air Traffic controllers from 44 airports in India were present. The workshop is scheduled to be held till October 18.
Performance-based navigation is an integral part of air traffic management. The implementation of performance-based navigation (PBN) is the highest air navigation priority for ICAO. PBN is also an important element in Aviation System Block Upgrades (ASBUs). AAI in collaboration with ICAO Sub-regional office is conducting the workshop for air traffic controllers. The workshop will enable the ATC Officers to appreciate as to how PBN enables:
