New Delhi: Pramod Kumar Das has assumed charge as new Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, as the government has cleared his appointment on Friday. Prior to his new appointment as Secretary of Ministry of Minority Affairs, Das was serving as Special Secretary, Department of Expenditure in the Ministry of Finance.
Das is an IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre of 1986 batch. He has held several other important positions in the Union as well as state governments. He has held various positions, including Additional Secretary, Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, Joint Secretary in Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT). He has served at Ministry of Industry & Commerce and as Managing Director of Trade and Investment Facilitation Corporation Limited Bhopal, Managing Director of State Industrial Dev Corpn Bhopal, as Labour Commissioner at Labour Department Indore and as Commissioner, Commercial Taxes Department, Indore.
The Ministry of Minority Affairs is a ministry of the government which was carved out of Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and created on January 29, 2006. It is the apex body for the Central government's regulatory and developmental programmes for minority religious communities in India, which include Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Zoroastrians (Parsis) and Jains. These communities are notified as minority communities in The Gazette of India under Section 2(c) of the National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.
