PM inaugurates 2 big floating solar power projects of NTPC

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated two of NTPC's green projects to the nation NTPC Ramagundam Floating Solar Project (100 MW) in Telangana and NTPC Kayamkulam Floating Solar Project (92 MW) in Kerala.

Modi also laid the Foundation stone for three NTPC's renewable projects; Nokh Solar Project (735 MW), Rajasthan; Green Hydrogen Mobility Project, Ladakh; and Green Hydrogen -Natural Gas Blending Project in Kawas, Gujarat.

PM said numerous path-breaking reforms have transformed the power sector in the last eight years. India's energy security and Green future will become strong with these projects. Our commitment towards green technology and green mobility will give rise to green jobs in our country.

The energy sector and the power sector will play a significant role in accelerating India's progress in the next 25 years, he further added.

Union Power Minister RK Singh, Minister of State for Power Krishan Pal, and Ministry of Power's Secretary Alok Kumar were also present during the virtual event.

NTPC has been expanding its green footprints by powering renewable energy projects and aims to achieve over 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032 accounting for 50 percent of its overall generation capacity. The RE mix includes Solar PV, Wind, Energy Storage and Green Hydrogen including mobility.

NTPC's capacity addition program is in line with India's commitment to UN Climate Change Conference at Glasgow at COP-26. The power major's goal is to achieve a non-fossil energy capacity of 500 GW by 2030 as part of NTPC's UN Global compact commitment.

This programme was part of the Grand Finale of Bijli Mahotsav, 'Ujjwal Bharat Ujjwal Bhavishya'- Power @2047 initiated by the Ministry of Power. It is organised across the country, it showcases the transformation in the power sector achieved in the last eight years. It aims to empower citizens by improving their awareness and participation in various power-related initiatives, schemes and programmes of the government.
