Mumbai/New Delhi: POWERGRID, India's largest electric power transmission utility and a Maharatna PSU, becomes the first Indian PSU to be accredited as registered education provider (REP) of Project Management Institute (PMI)®, the world's leading association for those who consider the project, program or portfolio management their profession. With this accreditation, POWERGRID aspires to enrich the Indian corporate and the government agencies at the central and state level with relevant project management skills to aid efficient execution of its projects.

PMI REPs are organisations that have been approved to offer training in project management and issue professional development units (PDUs) to meet the continuing education requirements needed by PMI credential holders. To earn the REP designation, a provider must meet or exceed rigorous standards for quality and effectiveness as defined by PMI.

The association will support POWERGRID in the creation of a project management culture in an institutionalised manner to achieve better results, thereby help propel the nation's growth vision. The overall objective will also be to gauge the progress of projects, do gap analysis and also bring out the successful practices and core issues in implementing large infrastructure initiatives of the company.

Commenting on being accredited as PMI REP, POWERGRID's Executive Director (HRD) Anil Saberwal said, "This accreditation will redefine our approach to capacity building in project management and will provide world-class learning to the professionals' external to POWERGRID through the globally acknowledged curriculum."

Commenting on the accreditation PMI India's Managing Director Dr Srini Srinivasan said, "It gives us immense pleasure to be associated with POWERGRID, a Maharatna company which is reiterating the importance of project management in power transmission sector. Over the past two decades in India, the total power transmission capacity has witnessed exceptional growth. Through this accreditation, we hope to create awareness about the need for best practices of project management in today's evolving economic scenario."

POWERGRID owns and operates 85% of India's total inter-state and inter-regional electric power transmission networks (161,490 circuit kms of the transmission network, 393,800 MVA (Mega Volt Ampere) of transformation capacity with 248 substations and 87,090 MW of national grid inter-regional capacity). It has rich and varied experience in the field of Project Management and has executed projects of varying sizes and complexity with an annual turnover of ₹ 35,661 crore (USD 499 Million) for FY 2018-19.
