New Delhi: Indian Railways has plans to set up 500 MW of land-based solar plants, including those on its unused land. Out of the above, a total of 3 MW has already been set up on Railway's unused land, Union Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal said on Wednesday.

The information was shared by Goyal while responding to a question in the Lok Sabha. He also shared details of three other land-based solar power plants that are in the pipeline in three different zones of Indian Railways.

Bhilai

A 50 MW solar power plant is being set up at Bhilai by Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL). South East Central Railway (SECR) is the nodal agency for the project. The project is expected to be commissioned by March 2021.

Bhopal

The West Central Railway (WCR) is establishing a 1.7 MW solar power plant at Sukhi-Siwania in Bhopal district. WCR is the Nodal agency for this project. The project is expected to be commissioned by March 2020.

Panipat

A 2 MW solar power plant is coming up at Diwana in Haryana's Panipat. Northern Railway (NR) is the nodal agency for this project. It is planning to commission this project by March 2020.
