New Delhi: As many as 43 leaders have taken oath as ministers on Wednesday in the Cabinet reshuffle undertaken by the Modi government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new Cabinet of ministers includes 36 new names. The rejig exercise comes in the backdrop of fierce criticism mounted by the Opposition on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over the handling of the COVID-19 crisis and a historical rise in fuel prices.

Earlier in the day, a number of high-profile resignations were also announced as Dr Harsh Vardhan, who held the health ministry, Ravi Shankar Prasad, who held key portfolios of law and information technology, Prakash Javadekar, the minister for environment, information and broadcasting and heavy industries, and Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who held charge of the Ministry of Education, stepped down.
