New Delhi: East Coast Railway has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Odisha for the redevelopment of Bhubaneswar railway station as a multi-model transport hub in New Delhi on Thursday. Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Union Minister for Railways Piyush Goyal and Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan signed the MoU via video conference.

Bhubaneswar railway station will be redeveloped

Under this MoU, the Bhubaneswar railway station will be redeveloped as a multi-model transport hub, jointly by the Ministry of Railways and the Odisha government. The hub is expected to be completed in three years and will have a new terminal building for the railway station, city bus terminal, public car parking and other allied public utilities, mixed use land development and air concourse connecting both sides of the Railway station.

Initiative will benefit Odisha, say ministers

Pradhan said that the citizens of Bhubaneswar would be greatly benefitted by this project and it could become a hub for tourism in the area. Odisha Chief Minister complimented the Railway Ministry for coming forward to develop the project. He said it will be a world-class multi modal transport hub and could be a first-of-its-kind in the country.

Goyal, in a statement issued for the occasion, said that the focus of the Indian Railways is on improving the infrastructure to make it at par with the world-class level. The minister said that he is happy that the Odisha government has come forward to collaborate with the Ministry of Railways to undertake the redevelopment.
