296 MW Fatehgarh solar PV project: NTPC declares another 74.88 MW operational

• The first part capacity of 49.92 MW of the 296 MW Fatehgarh solar PV project had been declared commercially operational by NTPC on January 1 this year
• With the commissioning of the third part, around 199.68 MW capacity will become operational

New Delhi: NTPC Limited has declared that the third part capacity of 74.88 MW of the 296 MW Fatehgarh solar PV project in Rajasthan will be commercially operational from March 5. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges, NTPC said, "Consequent upon successful commissioning, third part capacity of 74.88 MW out of 296 MW Fatehgarh Solar PV Project at Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, is declared on Commercial Operation w.e.f. 00:00 Hrs. of 05.03.2022." The Maharatna PSU had recently declared the second part 74.88 MW capacity of the Fatehgarh solar PV project commercially operational on February 5. 

199.68 MW capacity of 296 MW Fatehgarh solar PV project commissioned

The first part capacity of 49.92 MW of the 296 MW Fatehgarh solar PV project had been declared commercially operational by NTPC on January 1 this year. With the commissioning of the third part, around 199.68 MW capacity will become operational. This leaves 96.32 MW capacity which remains to be commissioned.

NTPC to put in place 60 GW of RE by 2032

NTPC plans to put in place 60 GW of Renewable Energy (RE) projects, including wind and solar projects, by 2032. Earlier in 2021, the Maharatna PSU had doubled its RE installation target from 32 GW to 60 GW by 2032. NTPC currently has an RE portfolio of 1,350 MW and it plans to add another 13,000 MW of RE by FY24. The pivot towards green energy is part of India's largest thermal power utility's diversification plan as renewable energy tariffs decline and the government has announced its intention to not commission any new thermal power plants (TPP). 

With the commissioning of the third part of the 296 MW Fatehgarh solar PV project, the commercial capacity of NTPC and NTPC group will become 54,452.18 MW and 67,907.18 MW, respectively.
