Guwahati: On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, various airports and stations of AAI Guwahati (AAI northeast region) organised several activities promoting Swachh Bharat, Shram Daan, tree plantation and cleaning of airport premises. In a press release, AAI Guwahati said that they had invited their housekeeping staff for informal interaction about the prevailing working conditions, their contribution, motivation, improvement measures and the participation of all stakeholders in the overall cleanliness level of the airport.

The best worker was felicitated by AAI. All housekeeping staff were handed over a gift hamper by IndiGo airline in the presence of Regional Executive Director, (AAI-NER) Sanjeev Jindal and Airport Director LGBI Airport, Guwahati, Ramesh Kumar.

AAI looks to ban single-use plastic

Addressing the gathering Jindal said that we must start cleanliness activities from the individual levels to the mass level as it requires less time but larger impact. Reducing the use of plastic and ban on single-use plastic was the core message on this occasion. "It should not only be confined to slogans and posters, but we must practice this from our home to office and promote environment-friendly materials at all the functions and celebrations," he added. The staff members gave their commitment to further enhance their performance levels. A cleanliness drive was carried out to VIP chowk of Guwahati Airport by employees and CISF personals.

The first airport in the country to ban single-use plastic

Ramesh Kumar, expressing his satisfaction with the implementation of the plastic ban, said that Guwahati Airport is among the first airports in the country to ban the circulation of single-use plastic. We have also installed a plastic crush machine inside the terminal building to reduce its use and recycle it, he said.

Tree plantation

At the AAI residential colony, a tree plantation drive was carried out by the General Manager, Engineering's Guild, ATC Guild members and AAI staff, officials and their family members. Tree saplings were planted in hundreds of numbers and a cleanliness drive was undertaken.

Gandhi Jayanti was also celebrated at Agartala Airport. A number of activities/events were conducted at MBB Airport. The cleanliness drive of the entire city side of the terminal building was carried out jointly by employees of AAI, CISF, Indigo Airlines and Air India in the morning. This was followed by a 'Nukkad Natak' performance by CISF unit of Agartala Airport. While appreciating the play, Jindal urged everyone to follow Gandhiji's values.
