Brijendra Pratap Singh assumes charge as Director In charge of SAIL’s Burnpur & Durgapur Steel Plants

New Delhi: Brijendra Pratap Singh has taken over charge as Director in-charge of Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) on Thursday. Prior to this assignment, he was serving as Executive Director (Works) in SAIL's Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP). With his new role, Dr Singh became the first Director In charge of SAIL's Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants as the Ministry of Steel had restructured the Management of SAIL. Earlier, there were four posts of the Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of four integrated steel plants of SAIL.

Dr Singh is an alumnus of the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad. After completing his Mechanical Engineering from ISM Dhanbad (now IIT ISM) and joined SAIL in 1990. He started his career in iron ore mine of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP). Later he became the Head of Mines in BSP by showing his commendable performance and was also associated with various operational areas at BSL, Bokaro.

Back in 2019, he was promoted to the rank of Executive Director and appointed as Executive Director (Operations) at Bhilai Steel Plant. He was re-designated as Executive Director (Works) at Bhilai Steel Plant at the end of December of the same year. During the pandemic, he successfully managed the operations at Plant. The plant's production was maintained despite restricted conditions. He took over as ED (Works) in DSP and has successfully implemented the converter shell changing job of all the three converters in record time. Under his able guidance, MSM accelerated production.

In his current role, Dr Singh is overall In-charge of Burnpur and Durgapur Steel Plants. He is responsible for the efficient functioning of the Plants and the concerned mines for achieving the corporate objectives and performance parameters. He is also responsible for project implementation at the plants or concerning mines and for marketing or sales of products from the Plants or concerned mines.
