New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Chandrasekar Lakshmanan (IFoS) as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of NLC India Limited. According to an order from the Department of Personnel & Traning (DoPT), Lakshmanan has been appointed as CVO of NLC India Ltd. for a period of up-to July 1, 2023, from the date of assumption of charge of the post or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Lakshmanan is a 1997-batch Indian Forest Service (IFoS) officer of the Kerala cadre. He is currently serving as Chief Conservator of Forests at the Forest Department. Earlier, Madras Fertilizers Limited's (MFL) CVO AL Prabhakar (IRSS) was holding additional charge of CVO NLC India Ltd.
NLC India Limited, formerly known as Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited is a 'Navratna' PSU company in the fossil fuel mining sector in India and thermal power generation. It was incorporated in 1956 and was wholly owned by the government of India. It annually produces about 30 million tonne lignite from opencast mines at Neyveli in the state of Tamil Nadu in southern India and at Barsingsar in Bikaner district of Rajasthan state. The lignite is used at pithead thermal power stations of 3,240 MW installed capacity to produce electricity. Its joint venture has a 1000 MW thermal power station using coal.
