New Delhi: A total of 31 companies, including Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC), Vedanta, BALCO, Jindal Power, JSW Steel, have submitted bids for the coal mines put up for auction under the latest tranche of commercial coal mines' auction, said the government on Tuesday. JSW Steel has submitted the highest number of bids at three, followed by NLC, Madhya Bharat Minerals Private Limited, Jhar Mineral Resources Private Limited, Godavari Power & Ispat Limited and Cavill Mining Private Limited, who have put in two bids each.

"The online bids were decrypted and opened electronically in the presence of the bidders. Subsequently, sealed envelopes containing offline bid documents were also opened in the presence of bidders. Entire process was displayed on the screen for the bidders," said the Ministry of Coal.

Commercial coal mines' auction

Ghogharpalli & Its Dip Extension in Odisha's Ib Valley has received the highest number of bids at seven. Jitput coal block in Jharkhand's Godda dostrict, MarkiMangli-IV coal block in Maharashtra's Yavatmal and Rampia & Dipside of Rampia coal block in Odisha's Ib Valley have received three bids each in the latest round of commercial coal mines' auction. Bandha North, Basantpur, Dahegaon/Makardhokra-IV and Sursa coal blocks have received two bids each.

Background

The auction process of 122 coal/lignite mines for sale of coal was launched by the Nominated Authority, Ministry of Coal on March 30 this year. The last date of submission of Technical Bid was June 27, 2022 except for 10 mines (Parbatpur Central coal mine and nine lignite mines). As part of the auction process, technical bids comprising of online and offline bid documents were opened on Tuesday, 10:00 am onwards, at New Delhi, in the presence of the interested bidders.

A total of 38 bids were received under three tranches of commercial coal mine auctions. Under Fifth tranche of auctions, a total of 28 bids were received against 15 coal mines, where two or more bids have been received for eight coal mines. Under 2nd Attempt of Third tranche, a total of nine coal mines were put up for auctions and six bids have been received against six coal mines. Under 2nd Attempt of Fourth Tranche, a total of four coal mines were put up for auctions and four bids have been received against three coal mines.
