New Delhi: Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Joint Secretary Durga Shanker Mishra (IAS) inaugurated a week-long in-service training programme – 'Financing Urban Infrastructure and Services in India', for All India Service Officers. The Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) sponsored training programme is organised by HUDCO's Research & Training Institute (HSMI) in New Delhi. The training is designed to address key issues in financing urban infrastructure and impart the necessary skills for the successful execution of such projects.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Mishra outlined the contours of urban infrastructure financing and explained how the government is leveraging its resources to generate more funds from other sources, including private investment in projects. Addressing the participants, MoHUA's Additional Secretary and CMD of HUDCO Kamran Rizvi (IAS) highlighted the government initiatives to tackle challenges in urban infrastructure financing.
HUDCO is a Miniratna PSU under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation. It is the premier techno-financing PSE, in the field of housing and infrastructure development in the country. HUDCO started financing the development of infrastructures in 1989. The priority was given to infrastructure facilities, including projects in the sectors of drainage, electricity, water supply, sewerage, solid waste management and roads in urban areas. Later, social infrastructure components like primary schools and playgrounds, hostels for working women, healthcare centres, police stations and jails, courts received the benefit of funding at a low cost.
