Sambalpur: State-run Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has crossed 150 million tonne (MT) coal production in a record time of 11 months, said an official statement on Monday. With this, MCL has joined the coveted club of coal subsidiaries of Coal India Ltd (CIL) which have produced 150 MT coal in a financial year. Earlier, sister subsidiary South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) was the only one to do so, said the statement. "Adding a new chapter to its success story, MCL recorded 5.82 lakh tonne coal production on Sunday, crossing the 150 MT coal production mark in a record time," the statement added.
MCL's Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) OP Singh congratulated all officers, staff, employees of contracted companies and other stakeholders for this achievement. "I would like to dedicate this great achievement to the efficient Team Work at all the levels," said Singh, expressing gratitude to the Odisha state administration, Coal India headquarters and Coal Ministry for regular guidance and support.
"We cherish this achievement with much joy and we would continue to work with the same enthusiasm and achieve success while ensuring energy security of the nation as MCL heads for creating bigger milestones in all the major parameters of coal mining, ie production, despatch and overburden removal," said the CMD.
Anticipating higher demand for coal, MCL has also initiated plans to maximise coal production during the next financial year.
