New Delhi: Nirlep Singh Rai is the new Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of National Fertilizers Limited (NFL), a Minisratna PSU under the Department of Fertilizers. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the proposal of the Department of Fertilizers for the appointment of the Director to the post on Saturday. According to the Personnel Ministry order, he has been appointed to the post for a period with effect from the date of his assumption of charge of the post till the date of his superannuation, i.e. August 31, 2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Rai was recommended for the NFL's CMD post on June 29 and PSU Watch is the first news organisation to report this. He was selected for the post from the list of three candidates, who were interviewed by the selection panel.
Rai has been serving as Director (Technical) of NFL since April 1, 2020. Prior to this, he was serving as Executive Director in the same organisation. He holds a B.E. (Instrumentation and Control) from Thapar University, Patiala, Punjab. He has professional experience of more than three and a half decades. He has served the company in different capacities in all the production units of NFL including heading the Nangal Unit for more than two years. He took charge of CEO, RFCL on November 1, 2018. Rai has worked in all units of the NFL in various capacities. He has also held charge of technical services and projects at the Bathinda unit.
Rai has been involved in various projects such as feedstock change over from fuel oil to Natural Gas, commissioning of DCS and ESD systems, Machine Monitoring Systems, Process Gas Analyzers, Fire and Gas Systems etc. His experience includes technical services and operation and maintenance of large scale Fertilizer Plants. Rai has played an active role in the commissioning of instrumentation and electrical systems pertaining to the ammonia feedstock change over the project (AFCP) in the Bathinda unit. He is credited for various system improvements during his tenure at Nangal which resulted in sustainable running of the plant.
