New Delhi: State-run NTPC Limited has declared the 85 MW Bilhaur Solar PV Project in Bilhaur, Uttar Pradesh (UP), commercially operational, as the last 15 MW unit began operations. In a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Monday, NTPC said, "… we wish to inform that consequent upon successful commissioning last part capacity of 15 MW of 85 MW Bilhaur Solar PV Project at Bilhaur, UP, the unit is declared to be on Commercial Operation w.e.f. 00:00 Hrs. of 08.04.2021." 

On March 31, NTPC had announced the 70 MW capacity of the same project commercially operational.  

NTPC Limited has plans to add 16,500 MW of renewable energy (RE) between FY23 and FY27, Power Minister RK Singh had said in February while responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha. NTPC plans to add 2,500 MW in FY23, 3,000 MW in FY24, 3,500 MW in FY25, 3,500 MW in FY26 and 4,000 MW in FY27. The total adds up to 16,500 MW. In 2020, the company had announced its plans to expand its RE portfolio to 32 GW by 2032, which will be nearly 25 percent of its overall capacity. The company also plans to double electricity generation from RE sources by FY22.  

With the commissioning of the 85 MW Bilhaur solar PV project, the total installed capacity of NTPC and NTPC group has become 52,400 MW and 65,825 MW, respectively, and the commercial capacity of NTPC and NTPC group has become 51,740 MW and 64,505 MW, respectively.
