New Delhi: Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has successfully commissioned a 40-kms of 11 kV transmission line from Lalung to Darchik under the rural electrification scheme namely Prime Minister Development Program (PMDP) in Ladakh. "The line is being used for the electrification of en route adjoining villages namely Lalung, Silmoo, Batalik, Darchik, Hurdass, Sinikcey and Garkon" the company said in an official statement issued Friday.

Now with the commissioning of this line, all remote villages in Aryan Valley (in Kargil district) are now connected to the national grid through 220 kV Srinagar Leh Transmission System. Earlier, these villages were dependent on DG sets for power supply which was available for a limited time only.

In addition to this, the electrification of 20 villages in Leh district has also been completed by Power Grid which involves the commissioning of remote villages like Largiab in Nubra Valley.

Besides, a number of 11 kV lines totaling 150 km, connecting villages Wanla to Fatoksar, Lamayaru to Atishe & Fotorse, and the Saspol area have been established by Power Grid and it connects all en route villages.

Power Grid has built a state-of-the-art 220/66 kV Gas Insulated Sub-stations (GIS) at Drass, Kargil, Khalsti and Leh connecting the Ladakh region to the national grid through the 341-km of 220 kV transmission line emanating from Srinagar. 220 kV Srinagar-Leh transmission system has been transferred to Power Grid as ISTS and we are committed to maintain high system availability and provide reliable power to the entire Ladakh region.

The reliable power from the grid will drive economic development in the region and bring prosperity to the remotest villages of Ladakh besides eliminating generation through DG sets.
