New Delhi: Ministry of Power's Secretary Alok Kumar (IAS) and NHPC Limited's Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) AK Singh met Chief Secretary of Sikkim Suresh C Gupta (IAS) on April 1 and apprised him of the status of under-construction projects and power station of NHPC in Sikkim. The Chief Secretary appreciated the efforts being made in the state and assured expeditious action on clearance of Teesta-IV. It was also intimated that efforts are underway to handover some new projects in the state.
Secretary (Power) also visited NHPC's 510 MW Teesta-V power station. During his visit, he was apprised about the status of ongoing activities in Sikkim by NHPC CMD. He not only visited various components of the powerhouse but also keenly interacted with young employees in the powerhouse to understand the activities being done in powerhouse operation. He appreciated the efforts being made by the team. Power Grid CMD K Sreekant was also present during the visit.
The next day (i.e Friday) Secretary (Power) along with NHPC CMD further visited NHPC's 500 MW Teesta-VI project, where he inspected various components of the project like barrage, head race tunnel, underground powerhouse, transformer cavern etc. He also held detailed discussions on various activities being undertaken including jet grouting technique in an inquisitive manner. The drilling activity for start of excavation on face 1B in Head Race Tunnel was started in the presence of the Secretary (Power) after the taking over of the project by NHPC. This marked the start of head race tunnel which had been stopped for many years.
