SAIL Bhilai Steel Plant’s (BSP) Bar & Rod mill records best ever performances

New Delhi: SAIL-Bhilai Steel Plant's Bar & Rod Mill that has recorded its best-ever cumulative production in April-Nov 2020 period as well as its best-ever monthly production and despatches in Nov 2020. The mill has created a new daily record of highest production of 1,583 tonnes of 10 mm TMT SeQR grade on December 4. A new shift record of 715 Tonnes of same 10 mm TMT SeQR grade was also created in B shift on December 4.

The new mill set up as part of the Plant's 7 MT modex programme of Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) is designed to roll out a wide variety of sections in the form of straight bars and wire rod coils. With infrastructure and construction activities picking up, the superior product quality of TMT grades from SAIL-Bhilai's Bar & Rod Mill, a modern unit with state-of-the-art technology, are much in demand.

Packaged neatly, products from Bar & Rod Mill have already reached various corners of the country including Nagpur, Vishakhapatnam, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Ghaziabad and Jaipur. The superior product quality of products, with negative tolerance and consistent mechanical properties and good weldability produced, has been widely appreciated by customers of SAIL-Bhilai.

Congratulating the team BRM along with associated departments for the record in 10 mm TMT rolling on December 4, BSP's Director (I/c) Anirban Dasgupta urged team Bar & Rod Mill to further improve upon this performance.

The Bar & Rod Mill has recorded its best-ever cumulative production of 1,97,893 tonnes in April-November 2020 period, making a big jump over the previous best figure of 78,601 tonnes recorded in corresponding April-November period of the previous fiscal year 2019-20.  This included cumulative production of 52,693 T of SeQR TMT grades so far in fiscal year 2020-21 tonnes. The mill despatched 51,963 tonnes of SeQR TMT grades so far in the fiscal year 2020-21 Tonnes.

The Plant's Modex unit BRM also recorded its best-ever monthly production of 37,976 T in November this year as against previous best of 36,615 T in September 2020. This included best-ever monthly SeQR TMT production of 15,888 tonnes. The Mill also recorded the best monthly dispatch of 38,602 tonnes in November 2020. This included best-ever monthly despatch of 14,852 T of SeQR TMT grades.

Among the customers of Bar & Rod Mill are several big names that are directly into infrastructure and construction activities. While Larsen & Toubro (L&T) that is currently engaged in construction activities of IIT Bhilai Project has been sourcing BRM products for this and several other ongoing projects, other major customers currently sourcing BRM products include Tata Projects, Shapporji Pallonji, Shreeji Cement, BG Shirke, Somani Ispat.

Besides, BRM products are in demand from several other customers that have been sourcing TMT and structural grades from SAIL-BSP. These include BHEL, NTPC Limited, Simplex Infrastructures, Mega Engg., Beekem Infra, Navyuga Engg., Ahluwalia Constructions, SECL and TNPL.
