New Delhi: In a tweet, the Ministry of Railways announced on Wednesday that Bhopal, the capital city of Madhya Pradesh, and Itarsi, a bustling commercial hub for agricultural goods, are set to benefit from an upcoming elevated rail connectivity project. The initiative aims to establish a third railway line between Budni and Barkhera, spanning a distance of 26.5 kilometres, with significant progress already achieved.

Budni-Barkhera third line project has reached completion rate of 87%

With an estimated cost of Rs 1,638.94 crore, the Budni-Barkhera third line project has reached an impressive completion rate of 87 percent. Once operational, this elevated rail connection will bring numerous advantages, including enhanced line capacity and reduced travel time between Bhopal and Itarsi. Also, the new railway line will contribute to decongesting existing routes and accommodating the rising passenger and freight traffic between Bhopal and Itarsi.

Elevated rail infrastructure will facilitate faster & more efficient transit

The introduction of an additional railway line is expected to address the growing transportation demands of the region, especially regarding the movement of agricultural goods and other commercial commodities. The elevated rail infrastructure will facilitate faster and more efficient transit, benefiting both commuters and businesses relying on the Bhopal-Itarsi route.

Bhopal-Itarsi route of West-Central Railway is responsible for carrying enormous passengers and goods traffic. Currently, more than 110 mail/express trains are operating on this route along with average of 48 goods trains. The sectional capacity utilisation is 170 percent. Sectional capacity utilisation in Indian railways refers to the efficient use of infrastructure and resources within specific sections, ensuring optimal allocation of capacity to meet demand and maximise operational efficiency.

With the construction of third line, traffic congestion will be eased. Besides, goods train movement will also become smooth after this major development.
