BPCL tanker overturns in Rajasthan’s Jalore, one killed in fire

New Delhi: A tanker belonging to Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL) overturned and caught fire on National Highway-48 in Rajasthan’s Jalore district on Wednesday, resulting in the death of one person and disrupting traffic movement, police officials said.

The incident occurred near the Sinwara overbridge along the Jaisalmer–Jamnagar highway stretch when the tanker, carrying an inflammable substance, overturned while en route from Barmer to Sanchore. The impact led to a spill, which subsequently ignited, engulfing the vehicle in flames.

According to police, the fire spread across several metres of the highway, affecting traffic on one carriageway. One individual inside the tanker was charred to death, while another managed to escape.

A video of the incident circulating on social media purportedly shows a person attempting to escape from the massive fire eruption moments after the tanker caught flames.

Local administration and police teams rushed to the spot following the incident, and a fire brigade unit from Sanchore was deployed to control the blaze.

Chittalwana Station House Officer Bhanwar Lal said that the exact nature of the inflammable substance being transported is yet to be determined. The tanker, bearing a Gujarat registration number, is owned by Bharat Petroleum. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the incident.

The incident comes at a time when tensions in the Middle East are deepening, raising concerns over global crude oil supply and safety across the petroleum logistics chain.
