Informing about the project, THDC’s Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) RK Vishnoi informed about a significant development in the progress of the 1200 MW Kalai-II Hydroelectric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. On February 23, the CEA has accorded its concurrence to Detailed Project Reports (DPR) for 1,200 MW Kalai-II HEP to THDC, extending the validity of the concurrence up to January 31, 2026.  This milestone underscores THDC’s pivotal role in advancing this crucial energy infrastructure project.

Earlier, CEA had accorded concurrence for this project in favor of Kalai Power Pvt. Limited. However, in December 2023, a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed by THDC’s Director (Technical) Bhupender Gupta on behalf of THDC and Ankur Garg Commissioner, (Hydro) on behalf of Government of Arunachal Pradesh for the execution of 1200 MW Kalai-II HEP by THDC.

According to Vishnoi, upon commissioning, the 1200 MW Kalai-II HEP is expected to generate 4,852.95 million units of electricity, and construction of the project will involve a total investment of approximately Rs 13,000 crore.

Vishnoi highlighted the broader socio-economic benefits that the project will bring to Arunachal Pradesh, stating, "the completion of the Kalai-II HEP will usher in an era of overall socio-economic development in the state. Beyond electricity generation, the project aims to strengthen infrastructure, enhance healthcare services, empower women, facilitate skill development and education, create employment opportunities, and promote sustainable development in the state."
