Coal India produced 1.72 MT coal & dispatched 1.60 MT during strike

• In percentage terms, Coal India registered an average daily coal production of 44 percent, dispatch of 38 percent and OBR of 61 percent

• The Maharatna coal miner was producing 1.3 MT of coal on an average during the 10-day period leading to the strike

New Delhi: Coal India Limited recorded coal output of 1.72 MT (Million Tonnes) and coal dispatch of 1.60 MT during the three-day strike organised by trade unions across India, the company said in a regulatory filing to the stock exchanges on Tuesday. In percentage terms, the company registered an average daily coal production of 44 percent, dispatch of 38 percent and OBR (Over Burden Removal) of 61 percent. The calculation of average is based on the average of 10 days prior to July 2 — which was the first day of the strike. Despite the strike, "the coal miner managed 44 per cent of coal output, compared to the average of 10 days immediately prior to the first day of the strike," said Coal India in an official statement.

"This means, with a little over one-third of the attendance, the company could still produce 58 per cent of OBR and coal composite combined," the statement said.

Attendance of employees improved progressively during strike: Coal India

According to the data shared by Coal India with the stock exchanges, the attendance registered at Coal India and its various subsidiaries improved progressively over the course of the three days, averaging close to 36 percent. The Maharatna coal miner was producing 1.3 MT of coal on an average during the 10-day period leading to the strike.

On an average, the company produced 0.57 MT of coal per day and despatched 0.53 MT of the dry fuel during three-day period. The average per day of OBR and coal composite was 4.73 MT.

Unions plan another strike on August 18

On the last day of the three-day-long strike organised by trade unions at Coal India Limited and its subsidiaries, the five CTUs (Central Trade Unions) have said that they will continue the agitation programme and have decided to hold another strike on August 18, which is the last day for bid submission for the 41 coal blocks put up for commercial mining. SQ Zama, the secretary-general of Indian National Mineworkers' Federation, affiliated to INTUC, said that the CTUs have planned to build public opinion against commercial mining in mining areas, going forward, and will continue the stir in a sustained way if the government seems adamant.
