New Delhi: In an endeavor to bolster its utilisation of electricity from renewable sources, Coal India Limited (CIL) successfully installed a 250 kWp rooftop solar power project on Thursday at its headquarters in Kolkata. The momentous project was inaugurated by Chairman Pramod Agrawal, accompanied by esteemed dignitaries including Vinay Ranjan, Director (Personnel & IR), Dr B Veera Reddy, Director (Technical), Mukesh Choudhary, Director (Marketing), and Brajesh Kumar Tripathy, CVO, CIL.
The newly commissioned solar power project is expected to generate approximately 3,60,000 kWh of electricity annually, making a significant contribution to reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 306 tonnes per year. This initiative aligns with CIL's commitment to environmental sustainability and underscores its dedication to transitioning towards cleaner energy sources.
As part of their ongoing efforts, CIL had previously installed a 160 kWp solar PV system at their headquarters, which already generates 81,000 units of electricity each year. The addition of the 250 kWp rooftop solar power project further amplifies CIL's renewable energy capacity and strengthens their commitment to harnessing clean energy.
