

New Delhi: Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy on Monday reviewed the performance of coal and mining sector entities operating in Odisha, with a focus on enhancing coal production, strengthening evacuation infrastructure, accelerating project implementation and promoting sustainable mining practices.

The review meeting, held in Bhubaneswar, was attended by Odisha's Commerce & Transport, Steel & Mines Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena during the inaugural session.
During the visit, the Union Minister conducted a comprehensive assessment of Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and private sector establishments functioning in Odisha under the administrative control of the Ministries of Coal and Mines.
In the presence of Coal India Limited's (CIL) Chairman B. Sairam, Mahanadi Coalfields Limited's (MCL) CMD Uday Anant Kaole presented the company's operational performance, ongoing initiatives and infrastructure development plans before the Minister.
The presentation highlighted MCL's efforts to improve operational efficiency, expand logistics infrastructure and strengthen its contribution to the country's energy security. The company also outlined its future growth plans aimed at enhancing coal production capacities.

The review discussions centred on increasing coal output, improving coal evacuation systems, diversifying into clean energy initiatives and ensuring environmentally responsible mining practices in alignment with the Central Government's vision of strengthening India's energy security.
Earlier in the day, Reddy interacted with members of MCL's Women Mines Rescue Team and praised their professionalism, courage and commitment to mine safety and emergency response preparedness. He lauded the team for setting an example of greater women's participation in critical mining operations.
