The contract for the construction of six NGMVs was awarded to CSL in March 2023, with the induction of the ships into the Indian Navy planned from 2027 onwards. These high-speed vessels will feature advanced weaponry and sensor systems, significantly bolstering the Navy’s combat readiness in the complex maritime environment of the Indian Ocean Region.

The NGMVs are envisioned as state-of-the-art warships equipped with a formidable array of systems, including Surface-to-Surface Missile Systems, Anti-Missile Defence Systems, Air Surveillance Radars, and Fire Control Radars. These capabilities will position the Indian Navy as a Future Ready and Combat Ready Force, capable of addressing diverse security challenges.

A key highlight of the project is the emphasis on indigenously developed and manufactured equipment, aligning with the Government of India’s ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative. This underscores India’s commitment to achieving self-reliance in defense production while building a strong and modern naval force.

The construction of these vessels reaffirms India’s focus on enhancing its maritime capabilities and supporting the vision of a robust and independent defense ecosystem.
