New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday inaugurated the new Electric Receiving Sub Station (RSS) at Park Street, developed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
Accodring to Delhi Metro, this state-of-the-art facility will ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical metro corridors, including the Airport Line and the Violet Line, while also catering to the power requirements of upcoming metro infrastructure projects in Delhi.
The Chief Minister was briefed on the technical and operational benefits of the new RSS, which has been relocated and reconstructed as part of the Central Vista Project of the Government of India. The original Park Street RSS, commissioned in 2010 during Phase-2 of the Delhi Metro, was dismantled in 2021–22 to facilitate Central Vista construction. Reconstruction of the facility began in 2023 on alternate land provided by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and was completed in December 2025.
The new combined RSS has been designed to meet current and future power demands of the Delhi Metro network. It will supply traction and auxiliary power to metro trains and stations on the Airport Line and Line-6 (Violet Line), while additional 25 kV feeders have been provisioned to support traction power requirements of the upcoming Central Vista Metro Line (Indraprastha to R K Ashram Marg) under DMRC’s Phase-5A expansion project.
All major electrical equipment from the original substation has been re-erected and commissioned, including 66 kV power transformers, 66 kV GIS panels, 33 kV panels and 25 kV GIS panels. The facility has been constructed in accordance with the latest technical standards and incorporates an upgraded Substation Automation System, along with energy-efficient VRF air-conditioning systems and LED lighting.
Advanced safety features, including automatic fire protection systems for transformers and electrical panels and a fully addressable fire alarm system, have been installed to enhance operational reliability and safety.
Designed in line with green building compliance standards, the Park Street RSS has applied for green certification. A solar rooftop power system is also planned to further improve sustainability and reduce the carbon footprint of operations.
The completion of the Park Street RSS under the Central Vista Project marks DMRC’s commitment to developing modern, safe and sustainable urban transport infrastructure, ensuring reliable power supply for Delhi Metro’s growing network.
