New Delhi: Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) Managing Director Praveen Kumar on Tuesday met with Jharkhand Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar to seek the appointment of a nodal officer to expedite the implementation of East-West Dedicated Freight Corridor (EWDFC). The meeting, held at the state secretariat (Project Bhawan) in Ranchi, focused on advancing the proposed East-West Dedicated freight corridor (EWDFC) for timely execution of the project.

In a post on X, DFCCIL said, “The meeting focused on advancing the proposed East-West Dedicated Freight Corridor (EWDFC) and addressing key implementation aspects, including land acquisition, forest clearance challenges along the route, and the nomination of a nodal officer from the State to facilitate timely execution.” Senior officials, including General Manager (Security) Ashish Mishra and General Manager (Coordination) Shouvik Sen Gupta, were also present during the meeting.

East-West Dedicated Freight Corridor (EWDFC)

East–West Dedicated Freight Corridor was first announced by then Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu in 2016-17 while presenting the Railway Budget. It will be a freight-specific corridor which will connect Dhankuni in West Bengal and Palghar in Maharashtra to facilitate the movement of cargo between the eastern and western parts of India.

The EWDFC is part of India’s broader plan to modernise its freight transport network. The concept of Dedicated Freight Corridors was first introduced in the mid-2000s to separate freight and passenger traffic, thereby improving efficiency and reducing delays.

Currently, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation India (DFCCIL) is engaged in the process of land acquisition for the East-West Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) project.
