Dr Hanumanthu Purushotham assumes charge as Secretary of Andhra Pradesh STI Department

New Delhi: The prominent Indian scientist Dr Hanumathu Purushotham on Monday assumed charge as Secretary to the Government in the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh at the State Secretariat in Amaravati.

Prior to his appointment, he served as Chairman and Managing Director of the National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) from January 2015 to September 2020. He has also held positions as Director at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) and IPR Chair Professor at Andhra University.

Following the assumption of charge, Dr Purushotham outlined his vision for strengthening Andhra Pradesh’s position as a leading centre for science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship. He emphasised the importance of promoting innovation-driven growth and leveraging technology to support the state’s development agenda.

Chief Secretary G Sai Prasad, Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department J Syamala Rao and Andhra Pradesh Council of Science and Technology (APCOST) Chief Executive Officer Dr K Sarat Kumar congratulated Dr Purushottam on assuming the new responsibility.

Dr Purushotham holds a Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering from Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, and a Master of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 1984. He also earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and later completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Osmania University.

Dr Purushottam is regarded as a scientist, innovation strategist and institution builder, having contributed to several initiatives related to technology development, commercialisation of research and promotion of intellectual property and innovation ecosystems during his professional career.
