DVC holds stakeholders' consultation on Tilaiya Dam Emergency Action Plan

New Delhi: In line with the Dam Safety Act of 2021, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) convened a stakeholders' consultation meeting on Friday to discuss the Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for the Tilaiya Dam. The meeting, led by DVC Chairman S Suresh Kumar (IAS) brought together government officials, DVC representatives, and local community members to ensure the safety and preparedness of the region in case of an emergency.

The program began with a welcome note from the DVC's Executive Director (Civil), who provided a concise overview of the EAP to the assembled stakeholders. In his address, S Suresh Kumar highlighted the critical importance of a well-structured and effectively communicated EAP. He emphasized DVC's commitment to safeguarding the lives and livelihoods of the communities surrounding the Tilaiya Dam and urged for close collaboration among all stakeholders. He also recommended regular mock drills to keep the concerned officials prepared for potential adverse situations.

Key attendees included representatives from the District Administration of Koderma and Hazaribag, Member Secretary DVRRC, CWC, as well as representatives from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the India Meteorological Department (IMD), All India Radio (AIR), and various media houses. The presence of DVC's senior officials, including the Member (Technical) and Executive Directors of Civil, Projects, Operations, Systems, and Commercial divisions, further underscored the meeting's significance and the importance of collective efforts to ensure the EAP's success.

During the meeting, Member (Technical) emphasized the vital role of stakeholder involvement in finalizing the EAP. Abhishek Shukla, Manager (Civil), provided a detailed presentation on the draft EAP, covering key components, potential risks, and proposed response strategies. The presentation included a five-step response detection process, three levels of emergencies, and a clear outline of the roles of concerned authorities. Critical topics such as flood hazard mapping, notification flowcharts, and affected areas were also addressed, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the plan.

The meeting also saw active participation from representatives of nearby villages, who offered valuable insights and voiced their concerns regarding the plan. Their input highlighted the importance of community engagement in the development and execution of safety measures. Attendees were provided with the draft Emergency Action Plan, along with inundation and evacuation maps for reference.

The consultation marks a significant step towards enhancing the region's preparedness and resilience against potential emergencies. DVC remains committed to working closely with all stakeholders to finalize and implement a robust Emergency Action Plan for the Tilaiya Dam.
