New Delhi: Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) on Saturday said that it has successfully signed a Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) to supply 559 MW of electricity.

This agreement, with the due consent received from the Ministry of Power, will see DVC supply 359 MW from its upcoming Durgapur Thermal Power Station (1×800 MW) in West Bengal and an additional 200 MW from the Koderma Thermal Power Station Phase II project in Jharkhand.

The signing ceremony took place at Mayfair Resort, Kalimpong, in the esteemed presence of prominent officials, including DVC Chairman S Suresh Kumar (IAS); Member (Finance) Arup Sarkar; Member (Secretary) Dr John Mathai; CVO Sudipto Acharjee; ED (Commercial) Sanjiv Shrivastava, ED (Project) C Prakash, ED (Finance) J Mukherjee along with other senior DVC officials and dignitaries from various beneficiary organisations.

This event took place against the backdrop of Consumer Meet 2024, being organised by DVC on November 15-16, at Mayfair Resort in the small hill city of Kalimpong in West Bengal, which brought together representatives from different DVC beneficiaries spread across the country. At present DVC is committed to supply power to various DISCOMS (Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka ,Haryana, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, West Bengal etc.) and critical infrastructure like Indian Railways. In addition to this DVC is successfully fulfilling its multifarious commitments in its untiring effort to serve its own consumers with reliable and affordable power in DVC command area.

The PPA was signed on behalf of GUVNL by S Mathur, General Manager (Commercial), and on behalf of DVC by Arun Patra, Chief General Manager (Commercial). This agreement follows a prior PPA of 600 MW that DVC had already signed with GUVNL on July 4 from its upcoming Raghunathpur TPS, Phase II.

The present agreements are testaments to GUVNL's commitment to securing a stable power supply amidst increasing future energy demands, with DVC reinforcing its support in this endeavour. DVC has already secured complete tie-ups for power generation from its upcoming brownfield thermal power projects, maintaining partnerships with various beneficiaries, including Gujarat, Haryana, and Karnataka, as allocated by the Ministry of Power.
