The use of legacy waste will help reduce dependence on natural resources, the Minister for Road, Transport and Highways said while addressing the 14th Annual Convocation Ceremony 2026 by Asian Education Group (AEG).

There are four mountains of legacy waste in Delhi, including Ghazipur landfill. The government took the initiative to segregate 80 lakh tonnes of waste and use it for road construction, Gadkari said.

The municipal waste was used in various sections of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, among others, the minister said.

"We have decided to use municipal waste in road construction so we do not have to use natural resources to arrange aggregates," he said.
