Govt extends Ravi A Robert Jerard’s additional charge as CMD of BSNL, MTNL for second time

New Delhi: The Government has extended the additional charge of Ravi A Robert Jerard, a senior official from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) for a second time. The extension, effective from July 15, 2025, will be for a further period of three months or until further orders.

The development was disclosed in a regulatory filing by MTNL. The extension also includes the additional charge of CMD of Bharat Broadband Network Limited (BBNL), which Jerard currently holds.

Jerard was first assigned the additional charge of CMD for the three telecom PSUs on July 14, 2024, after the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) declined an extension for former CMD PK Purwar. His charge was initially extended in January 2025 and has now been renewed again to ensure continuity in leadership and to avoid vacancies at the top posts of these crucial public sector undertakings.

As per the order, Jerard will not receive any additional remuneration for holding the additional charge of CMD across the three telecom entities.
