HPCL ensures uninterrupted LPG supply to 9.13 crore customers amid global supply disruptions

New Delhi: State-owned oil marketing major Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) maintained uninterrupted LPG supplies to households across India despite severe disruptions in global LPG supply chains caused by tensions affecting the Strait of Hormuz.

Between May 1 and June 7, HPCL served more than 9.13 crore customers nationwide and delivered 432.82 lakh domestic LPG cylinders through its network of 6,229 distributors and 52,814 delivery personnel.

The company said it accorded special priority to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY), ensuring uninterrupted access to clean cooking fuel for economically vulnerable households. During the period, HPCL served 2.80 crore PMUY customers and delivered 101.07 lakh Ujjwala refill cylinders across the country.

The uninterrupted supplies came at a time when global LPG logistics faced significant challenges, with around 54 percent of India's LPG imports transiting through the Strait of Hormuz. HPCL said it strengthened coordination across sourcing, bottling plants, distribution points and last-mile delivery networks to ensure seamless operations.

To improve accessibility to clean cooking fuel, the company conducted 1,622 Free Trade LPG (FTL) camps and delivered 8.62 lakh 5-kg cylinders, catering particularly to smaller households and first-time users. HPCL also supplied 37.77 lakh commercial LPG cylinders to support restaurants, hotels and small businesses.

As part of its efforts to strengthen operational integrity and curb diversion of subsidised LPG, HPCL carried out 2,283 inspections across its distribution network. The company also reinforced OTP-based delivery verification and monitoring mechanisms to ensure transparent and efficient delivery to intended beneficiaries.

HPCL said the continuity of LPG supplies was made possible through coordinated efforts across the entire value chain, including domestic production, bottling operations, transportation networks, distributors and delivery personnel. The company worked closely with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoPNG) to prioritise household and essential LPG requirements during the period.

The company said its performance underscores the resilience of India's energy infrastructure and the commitment of thousands of frontline workers who ensured uninterrupted access to clean cooking fuel for millions of households despite global supply-side challenges.
