New Delhi/Visakhapatnam: Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Cmde Hemant Khatri (Retd) underscored the critical need for continuous training and skill development in the shipbuilding sector while addressing the 2nd Edition of the BIMSTEC Ports Conclave 2025 in Visakhapatnam.

Speaking on the theme “Upskilling the BIMSTEC Maritime Workforce,” Cmde Khatri called shipbuilding a unique industrial ecosystem that demands a broad spectrum of evolving skill sets. He stressed that with rapid technological advancements reshaping the maritime domain, consistent upskilling and workforce adaptability are essential to stay competitive and future-ready.

“Shipbuilding is not just about infrastructure and machinery. It is equally about the human capital that drives innovation, precision, and quality. The pace of technological change requires our workforce to continuously learn and adapt,” said Cmde Khatri.

The session highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation among BIMSTEC nations in training and capacity building, with HSL positioned as a catalyst for regional maritime skill development. HSL’s active participation in the conclave reflects India’s strategic focus on strengthening regional maritime capabilities and human resource development under the Maritime India Vision 2030.

The BIMSTEC Ports Conclave 2025 brought together policymakers, industry leaders, and port authorities from the Bay of Bengal region to collaborate on port-led development, sustainable shipping, and capacity building initiatives.
