New Delhi: In a landmark development for India’s clean energy sector, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (Indian Oil) has become the first company in the country to secure the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) CORSIA for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) production at its Panipat Refinery. The certification is a prerequisite for commercial SAF production and marks a major step forward in India’s capability to produce, certify, and distribute sustainable aviation fuel in line with global standards.

The certification was formally handed over by international certifying agency Cotecna to Indian Oil's Chairman AS Sahney at a ceremony in New Delhi. The event was attended by Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoP&NG) Joint Secretary Rohit Mathur; Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) Joint Director General Maneesh Kumar and senior officials from MoP&NG, DGCA, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), and the National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB).

Speaking on the occasion, officials commended the coordinated efforts of MoP\&NG, DGCA, NABCB, MoCA, and Cotecna in aligning India’s regulatory and production frameworks with international best practices for green aviation.

The ISCC CORSIA certification, developed under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), ensures that SAF meets stringent sustainability and lifecycle carbon emission standards. SAF from Panipat Refinery has undergone comprehensive assessment for lifecycle emissions and traceability, enabling Indian airlines to integrate certified SAF into their operations.
