In addition to the regular train services, Railways operated 4,493 special train trips in the last 21 days, averaging 213 trips daily, to help passengers reach home safely for the Diwali celebrations. The ongoing efforts are part of Railways’ broader strategy to enhance capacity and improve passenger services during the festive season.

Over a 61-day period, from October 1 to November 30, 2025, more than 12,000 special trains are being operated across the country to manage the festive rush. So far, 11,865 trips (covering 916 trains) have been notified, comprising 9,338 reserved and 2,203 unreserved trips. This represents a significant increase from last year, when 7,724 Puja and Diwali special trains were operated, underscoring Indian Railways’ commitment to ensuring smooth and efficient travel during peak demand.

At Udhna Railway Station in Gujarat, for instance, Indian Railways successfully managed an impressive 50 percent increase in passenger traffic compared to the previous year. On October 19, 2025, over 36,000 passengers were facilitated, with all boarding completed by 4 PM to ensure timely departures. Special measures, including additional ticket counters, a dedicated holding area, and coordinated crowd control efforts, were implemented for passenger safety and comfort. Over the last five days alone, more than 1.2 lakh passengers travelled from Udhna.
